Dental emergencies · Panama City
A root canal has a bad reputation it does not deserve. Done by an endodontist, it is the treatment that stops the pain and saves your natural tooth.
What a root canal actually is
Inside every tooth there is soft tissue called the pulp, with nerves and blood vessels. When a deep cavity, a crack or a blow reaches that tissue, it becomes inflamed or infected and the pain can be intense. A root canal, or endodontic treatment, removes that damaged tissue, disinfects the inside of the root and seals it.
The result is a tooth that no longer hurts and that you keep in your mouth, instead of losing it to an extraction. Afterwards the tooth usually needs a filling or a crown to protect it.
Why it should be done by an endodontist
An endodontist is a dentist who completed a specialty dedicated only to the inside of the tooth. Dr. Moisés Lukowiecki is a specialist in endodontics and dental trauma, a member of the Panamanian Association of Endodontics and has more than 20 years of practice. Our patients repeat the same idea in their reviews: he explains the procedure first, and the treatment was painless.
With modern anesthesia, a root canal feels very similar to a regular filling. What most patients remember is the relief: the pain they arrived with is gone.
When it is urgent
A root canal becomes an emergency when you have throbbing pain, pain that wakes you up, sensitivity to heat that lingers, or swelling around the tooth. In those cases, starting the treatment the same day relieves the pressure and stops the infection from spreading.
If you are visiting Panama, tell us how many days you will be here. Dr. Lukowiecki will plan the treatment so you leave without pain and with the tooth protected for your trip home.

I had an emergency on a Sunday and couldn’t find a single dentist in Panama to see me. Dr. Moisés Lukowiecki was the only one who called me back. He saw me right away, did the root canal that same day, and the severe pain was gone.

I took my daughter in with a toothache. From the first contact — he calls you back — until after the root canal, Dr. Moisés kept checking on her. As a dad, I feel at ease.
